Hiriari buruz

Manchester, bere museo interesgarriak, berreraikitzen ari den hiri‑erdigunea eta musika‑ondare nabarmena direla eta, bisitatzeko leku zirraragarria da. Historia eta kultura aberatsak ditu, eta, jakina, planetako futbol‑talde ezagunena, Manchester United, du etxe. Baina Manchester, batez ere, gonbidatuak entretenitzea maite duen hiri dibertigarria da. Bertako katedral gotikoa eskualdeko arkitektura‑ikur bereizgarria da. Manchesterko katedral gotikoaren barrualdea liluragarria da, egur‑taila landuek eta altzari erdi arokoek apaindua. Gertu dago Chetham’s Library and School of Music, munduko lehen liburutegi publikoena eta Manchesterko eraikin zaharrena dela uste dena. Viktoriar eta edoardotar arkitektura ikusgarriz aberatsa da hiria; Albert Squareko udaletxe neo‑gotiko erraldoia ikusgarritasuna da, barrutik zein kanpotik, eta Manchesterko historiaren muralek apaindutako areto zerezial handi bat dauka. Arte‑zaleentzat, Manchester Art Gallery-k Britainia Handiko eta Europako artelanen bilduma bikaina du. Zalantzarik gabe, iparraldeko hiriburu koroatu gabea erosketak egiteko, edateko eta jateko leku bikaina da. 1996ko IRAren leherketa baten ondoren berreraikia, Millennium Quarter da Manchesterko merkataritza nagusiko tenpluen egoitza; Corn Exchange, berriz, moda‑ eta estilo‑boutiquen gune paregabea da. Gaueko giroa ospetsua da, taberna tradizional ugari daudelako, jatetxe dotoreekin eta klub ozenekin batera. Beraz, iragan handiko hiria izanik ere, Manchester etorkizunera begira dago.
